Antler is a restaurant rooted in friendship, family, and above all, the forest. Chef Michael Hunter – aptly named, given the thematic congruence in his personal and professional pastimes – has broken away from the corporate kitchen of Red's Wine Tavern, to launch the new Little Portugal restaurant. Alongside business partner, Jody Shapiro, the restaurant draws on a Canadian focus and a “forest to table” approach.
Wild edibles, Canadian game meat and foraged cocktails predicate a dining room philosophy that's rooted in executing on their ideals rather than just preaching them.
“We want to connect with our origins – understand where our food comes from, experience how ingredients are supposed to taste,” says Hunter, who became fascinated in wild foods at 18, when he took part in his first wild turkey hunt.
